Review: Jacked Up Flip Flops for Leg Length Discrepancy
/I have a 2 cm leg length discrepancy (LLD) and was so excited to see that there was a company that made customizable flip flops that can accommodate different leg lengths. Jacked Up offers lifts and black flip flops in 4 mm increments.
You choose the height of each side, so people with LLD on either side can be accommodated. You have one color option and seven available sizes.
When I first found this company, I reached out to the owner, Don. He responded quickly answering my questions about when the sandals would be back in stock. I needed to wait a couple weeks to get the order filled but Don updated me when they were ready. He seemed to care about his customers and I was so excited to order and receive them.
I typically wear a .5 in lift, so I ordered the right sandal with a 12 mm lift (.47 in). They were about $80 and I was grateful to finally have something to wear to the beach or around the pool.
What I Liked
It was very easy to get close to the lift adjustment that I needed. The ordering process was simple and the owner was very helpful. Black goes with everything and these flip flops fit one of my longtime needs.
What I Didn’t Like
Though I chose the smallest size, they were still too big for my feet. There is space both at the top and bottom of my foot and there is a gap between the top of my foot and the strap. This makes them feel loose when I step. I need to curl my toes to hold them in place. This makes them not practical or sustainable for longer walks.
These sandals are made out of a soft foam. As I use them, my weight bares down on them and the thinner sandal has a larger indent. This means that the adjustment you intend to balance your asymmetries may not be sustained over time. The side with the lift is higher and thicker so it has more resistance and creates less of an indentation.
When I first bought these, I was so excited and though I thought they were expensive they seemed like the only option. However, after taking regular flip flops to a shoe repair shop, I was able to get the lift that I needed in whatever footwear for less money. I was pleased with the ease of the online ordering process but there were no options and it came at a higher cost.
This review might seem a little skewed toward the negative, but I must say how happy I was to have a convenient solution to my LLD problem. Just over time I have discovered other options may be more flexible and cheaper. So, if you have larger feet than me and are looking for convenience, I think Jacked Up is a great option for LLD footwear.
